New Bern, USA

October 7th

Does New Bern ring a bell? It was founded by a man from Thun, a town near where my grandparents live.

As a Bernese family, visiting New Bern felt like a must! Once we arrived, we couldn’t help but giggle when we saw Bernese flags everywhere—it felt like a little slice of home in the US.

New Bern has a fascinating history, beautifully showcased in its museum and historic site. We visited the Tryon Palace, often referred to as a “castle,” which was the first permanent capitol of North Carolina and a key site during the American Revolution.

It was a glimpse into the lives of the early settlers, complete with period furnishings, gardens, and exhibits.
